My name is Douglas James Davenport, Jr. I drop the “Jr.” as a stage name. At least for now.
For the last few years I’ve gone as “DSazster” of Atomsplit. Atomsplit is the band I formed and fronted from 1997 to now. Now it’s kinda a virtual band now though. I’ve turned it into a comic / cartoon band. I always knew it was a KILLER name. I’m working on a 12 Episode Video Podcast / Cartoon of the characters and their encounter with “Dr. Peevil” of the evil record industry. Go to atomsplit.com to check it out. We’ll be ready to launch the episodes in December 2008.
In addition to the Atomsplit cartoon, after years and years of having to write songs specifically for the band I decided to take a year or so of and just write songs for myself. I thought what better outlet than doing a a Podcast (all the buzzword rage in 2005) show a week where I would write a song and podcast it. So I set out to do it in late fall 2005. I was pretty diligent about it for the most part, although fate would prevent a few weeks from writing, in finishing. It took me about 14 months but I did finish. Some good material came from it.
I started the 52 songs writing in a mild state of depression at that point in my life and finished a year or so later working my way out of it. So the songs became a journal of my life. At the end the songs definitely sounded more happy and positive. And along the way I kinda became spiritually “born again”. So a lot of the material reflected that.
Upon completion I had that musician “itch” to put out a CD. So I booked myself up at Summerhouse Sound in Hoschton, Georgia and after 6 or so weekends, completed the project.
So this site is dedicated to the CD, which I’ve decided to call “End Up Here”. AND the site is a way for me to start writing new material, making new video videos, making a new podcast, and rambling on about misc. shit.
More about the past….
Atomsplit the real band had a few college radio breakthroughs from 1997 to 2005. It all started with “SO OVER YOU” winning a song-writing award in Georgia. Hey, you CAN win a contest with 3 chords and a dream! We had various medium college station hits, a video on MTV (not in the U.S.), songs in video games, songs in books, songs on MTV reality and put out 5 CDs. We had a ton of great shows and great times along the way.
Before that I was guitar player and co-lead singer in 90′s Atlanta band “The Inklings”. We were pretty good. Though kinda annoying I think to people. All poppy and happy like. We circulated the Atlanta club scene in the mid-90s and opened for acts like Silverchair and Stereolab at different points. We put out a decent CD and tape (yes, tape!). It all ended in a nasty breakup. Which coincedently inspired the song “SO OVER YOU”. I have some Inklings video clips on my YouTube page if you’re interested.
Before the Inklings I was in the Tampa “old wave” scene fronting an awesome band we called “Rome In A Day”. We gigged all over the greater Tampa Bay / St. Pete area playing places like the State Theatre, the ACL Club, and Masquerade. I remember one gig at the old ACL Club in St Pete where the biker audience would yell “Zepplin or die!”. We were just little kids then and those guys were f’ing with us. It was fun though. We recorded some great stuff which, other than a home made cassette, has yet to be released. Our last show was at the State Theatre as a guy in the band quit on stage. We tried awhile to continue but it wasn’t the same. So I moved to Atlanta.
More to come….

DJ! It’s been a long time. How are you? Your C-card was sent back to us last Christmas, so I need an address update. I’ll try to ask my BF Gesche, but she is in the middle of moving to VA. I like the blog, by the way. It brought back some memories for sure. Keep in touch, will ya? The other M
